It is totally beach inspired and fresh, yet timeless, elegant, and practical. Right up my alley – and I know some of you like this beach inspired crochet theme as much as I do.

Here are my favs:
Can’t you just see the Sand Dollars on her top? and…
With the California sun warming my heart I am excited to present the Spring Breeze Collection. Every element of this collection reflects my never-ending love for yarn and the needle arts. I’m fascinated with the details of the seashore, the shells, the rhythm of the tides, and the infinite pastel spectrum of the morning sky. The theme and color palette I chose for this collection captures some of these delicate tones. Please join me in a walk along the shore. Our footprints in the sand may wash away, but my passion woven into this collection will stay on-trend for years to come…

9 Ways to Save Money on Yarn!
If you have a Knitting or Crochet addiction like I do, you may find yourself drooling over all the luscious fibers at your local yarn store only having to walk out empty handed because you just cannot justify the expense.
Don’t get me wrong, I treat myself all the time, but the guilt!! Especially when I know I have many works-in-progress waiting for me at home screaming at me to complete them before I buy more yarn.
I have compiled a few ideas to increase our yarn stash without all that pesky guilt! Here are 9 ideas to help you save money and have a yarn stash worth bragging about!

The Freecycle Network™ is made up of 5,000+ groups with 7 million members across the globe. It’s a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (and getting) stuff for free in their own towns and keeping good stuff out of landfills. Membership is free, and everything posted must be free, legal and appropriate for all ages. This may be hit or miss but who knows, maybe one of your neighbors is cleaning out their craft room!!
3. Take Apart Sweaters
Take advantage of deals at thrift store by buying sweaters and taking them apart to reuse the yarn. You may come across some beautiful fibers, like cashmere, and re-purpose that into something beautiful!
4. Buy Yarn In Discount and Dollar Stores
My local Dollar Tree does not sell yarn, but they do sell twine and hemp which I used to create rustic pumpkins last Halloween. I have heard from some of my crafting friends that their local dollar stores carry yarn! Check it out!
5. Garage Sales and Estate Sales
In the past, I used to make a hobby of getting up early on the weekends to peruse garage sales looking for a deal on furniture to refurbish. Every so often I ran across a yarn sale. You can get a HUGE stash for a steal!!
6. Make Rag Balls
Cut up your old T-shirts and make a large rag ball. There are websites that show you how to do this most efficiently.
7. Buy Wholesale Yarn
If you sell items at craft fairs or online, why not use a wholesale license to purchase your yarn? Keep in mind that you will probably have minimum purchases dealing with yarn retailers, but you can get yarn half off or more! Check with your local state department on how to get a wholesale license.
8. Swap with Other Crafters
Facebook is just one place that typically has local sales and swaps. You can use their Buy and Sell Groups to find people almost giving yarn away!

UPDATE – The Dahlia Flower Crochet Rug Pattern is now available in the KMI Shop!
Man, every time I look at these I want one so badly!
I have been working with flower patterns, crocheting my little fingers to the bone and of course having a lot of do-overs. You know how it goes.
But I think I may have created something I can use here. I have been playing around with stitches and sizes. I don’t have a final final pattern created but I’m so darn close.
Maybe a vote is in order?? What do you think?
Above is the first pattern I came up with for the Crochet Flower Rug. As you can see, it is super large at about 14 inches. (wouldn’t that make a great pillow?!?).
It may be good for a huge living room rug, but I was thinking maybe a little smaller – even for a large room rug. Maybe 12 inch or even 10 inch flowers?
From what I can see in my favorite of the three Crochet Flower Rug Patterns below, it shows 8 flowers across.
So based on my calculations, if I used the 14 inch flower, I would have a final product of 9 feet across (assuming I would use all the same size flowers in the rug).
The 12 inch flower would produce an 8 foot side and the 10 inch would make a 6.5 foot side. I think that may be what I’m looking for in a living room rug.
But, lets back up for a minute. I really want to finish at least one crochet flower rug so I’m thinking of starting with a smaller kitchen rug for my first go at it.
Which brings us to the smaller flowers I came up with. I played around with different size stitches and hooks and these are my three favorites below.
The ones on the left are about 7 x 7 in and the center smaller one is 6 x 6 in.
I like the pattern of the small center one the best. In my opinion, it has the perfect sized petals and a nice soft texture (yes, I have been walking on them) that bounces back and isn’t too uneven to walk on.
What do you think? Can you picture a cute cozy little kitchen rug made out of these lovely flowers?
I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.
