Moving is soooooo much work, isn’t it? Well we are moved into our new place and guess what? I have the BEST office/craft room EVER!! I am SO SO excited about this space
I have been working on this blog from my bedroom in a small apartment and now we are finally all in a house! We have room to breath… and crochet! HA HA
I haven’t touched the rug in a whole week! I know some of you are plugging along but I haven’t heard that anyone is up to part 4 yet. I will be working on it this week so I will have more rounds up very soon!
Anyway, even though I have been super busy, I have still been finding some crochet inspirations for us…
Check out these finds!
This is a quilt! Can you believe it? I love the different patterns with different frames all different sizes. What do you think? I would love to design an afghan around this. That would be a good way to get rid of some stash!! random squares and rectangles to join together. Very interesting…
Where is your favorite place to find crochet inspiration? While I post crochet inspiration here for you, personally, I check out sources other than crochet for inspiration. I will look at home decor, fashion, and baby trends to create something new and exciting.
I am in LOVE with this border. Isn’t it darling? I have saved it everywhere so that if I EVER finish my granny square blanket, I can use this border. It is a free pattern that is available on Ravelry from BabyLove Brand. I would love to see this with other square patterns. If you use this, post a pic on my Facebook Page.
Check out this dress! Stunning! So much work went into this I’m sure. I love the texture and the different layers. Definitely a beauty! Those ruffles and quite interesting. I like the different stitches down the dress.
(Dear Lord give me the endurance and stick-to-it-ivness to complete something this beautiful someday… thanks, Karla)
I have been wanting to make a panel blanket for some time. I started a few (blushing) but could never stick with it. It takes soooooo looooong to make that many panels. Do you get bored on larger projects? What do you do to stay motivated?
Ok my friends, I need to get back to crocheting. I’ve got that rug I’m working on and a new blanket for my wee one. She has wanted a blanket for the longest time. Hopefully, I will finish this one for her! lol
I had so much fun looking for all these Free Crochet Patterns! There was a little disappointment too. I didn’t realize how many frustrating websites there are out there. Websites that have THE BEST Crochet photos I have ever seen, but there is only an ad! No pattern! I couldn’t resist showing you some of them for inspiration and color ideas! I believe with the free patterns below that you could absolutely replicate these darling mermaid tails.
Mermaid Tail Inspiration
Aren’t these Mermaid Tail Patterns the most darling things you have ever seen? I looooove all the baby ones but did you know there are patterns for Big Girls too!! Seriously! I know a bunch of teens (and maybe some moms?) that are going to be happy with meeee!
This Infant Mermaid Tail Cocoon is adapted from using the first pattern below and Red Heart Boutique in Candy. She adapted the pattern by eliminating some rounds and she crocheted in the round for the whole cocoon rather than making a split for a “blanket.”
Well here are enough free patterns to keep you busy for a while. I love all the creative ways these designers used different stitches to simulate scales. Even if you are a Crochet Newbie, there are patterns below with easy double crochet stitches and even some great video tutorials!
Free Mermaid Tail Crochet Patterns.
And for the Boys… A Shark Blanket!
We couldn’t leave out the boys!! They will be sure to love this shark sleep sack! If you make one, make one for me too!! I need this in my life 🙂 j/k but seriously, if you do make it, tag me on Facebook and let me know I inspired you!!

Color Palette Recommendations
Do you ever have trouble picking colors combinations that work well together for your Crochet Projects? I do, so I collect color palettes to look at when I’m having trouble deciding how to combine colors! Here are some color palettes that I saved this week. They would be great colors for your mermaid tails!!
Well that’s all I have for you today my crocheting friends. If you make anything you found on my blog, I would love it if you would tag me on Facebook. Until next time…
Make it a Beautiful Day,
Do you know someone that would like to read my Crochet Blog? Why don’t you share my page with them. I would be your bestest friend and love you forever 😀
Crochet inspiration, Update on Princess Mandala CAL, and Free Crochet Patterns from Karla’s Making It!
Hello Crochet Friends!
I hope you are are doing well. I am doing fabulous. I just got home from a short trip to Hawaii and I feel rested and ready to crochet. How about you? How’s your summer going? I hope you are equally well rested and ready to crochet!
She was having a challenge figuring out the pattern for the square since it was only available in chart form that is kind of blurry, not to mention it was in Japanese. So, since this pattern has been on my bucket list, I offered to translate it to a written pattern for us.
Also, while Char has much much more crochet experience than me, I decided to make a picture tutorial (at the bottom of this post) for anyone else that may need a little more help.
You can make other things with this pattern, such as this scarf, a purse, shawl… What else would you make with these squares?
Round 1 – Ch 1, Sc in ring. *Ch 3, make three dc’s in ring. Ch 3 and sc in ring.* Repeat from *-* 3 more times. Sl st in 1st sc.

Pull center circle snug and weave in ends.
To complete your potholder, make 4 squares. Join with whip stitch, single crochet, or your preferred joining method. Sc all around 4 squares with White Yarn. Use Mod Blue Yarn color to sc around again. Make a picot edge with White making a ring of 10-15 chains at one corner to hang.
I don’t have a pattern for it and the onesie is not available (as of this writing) in her shop. Man I wish I had a baby to make this for – bummer.
But if I did want to create it, I would measure baby, use a few rows of a pattern for a diaper cover (like this free one) and then work in the round with shells to make the body. Weave a ribbon around the top, make a bow and wha-la! You have a darling gift for an expecting mom or even for yourself!!
High waisted bikinis have made a comeback! Check out the Goddess High Waist Crochet Bikini Bottom! Totally trendy and totally flattering. Again there is no pattern but they are available for purchase on their website.
If I wanted to recreate these I would find a panty pattern (here’s a free one) and, using shells, create a front and back panel, make some chain ties for the sides and there you go!
What a great summer top! This is the Ariane top from Peggy Grand and it is a FREE pattern on Ravelry.
I have had this top saved for a loooong time. But you know how it goes, right? Even if I crocheted every minute of the day I couldn’t complete all the patterns I have saved – that’s why I like to tell YOU about them. I will be vicariously pleased if you made this top! Make sure you tag me in a post on Facebook if you do!!

Christmas Pillows!! Free Crochet Patterns, Inspiration, and of course some discounts
Hello my Crocheting Friends (Hi Carmen)!
A visitor named Carmen asked me for a specific pattern for Christmas. She wants a pattern for a Santa Pillow. She didn’t specifically request a FREE crochet pattern, so I found some Free Crochet Patterns and included a few paid patterns that are pretty darn awesome.
Do you have any Free Crochet Patterns to share?
Check out these festive crochet pillows! They would be fabulous to decorate you home for the holidays or even to give as a gift.
I also get my yarn from Joann.com. There’s ALWAYS a yarn on sale and they put out great coupons. Another great place for deals is Craftsy! They have a lot of premium yarn for a huge discount! You can even get the yarn straight from the Yarnspirations website.
Joann’s has two Free Holiday Pillow Patterns. A Present and Reindeer Pillow Pal.
I couldn’t resist sharing this darling Pillow and Afghan set from Annie’s. In the Traditional Christmas Patterns Pdf Download, you can crochet this afghan and pillow set, as well as a tissue cover, a reindeer basket, a towel topper, a pot holder and a place mat, all with a traditional holiday theme. The download is available from Annie’s Craft Store. See Below For Coupons!!!
Have you even wanted to learn to knit? I have for a long time. I just love how the fabric turns out, the thinness and the lack of holes, as well as the fabulous coziness of it all! (Check out this week’s post on knitting for inspiration)
I have compiled a few easy patterns to help you learn, as well as the website that finally helped me “get it.”
First the patterns. If you already have a basic knowledge of knitting (knit and purl stitches, how to hold the needles and yarn, etc.) jump right in.
I started with washcloths and dishcloths. They work up fast and gave me such a sense of accomplishment I needed to keep going.
Here is my very first washcloth:
It’s not perfect. There are a few mistakes. But to me, it is completely fabulous!! The knitting makes it so soft, squishy and drapy (is that a word?). I’m so proud!! It truly is easier than I thought!!
Here is the pattern and a few more to try out your knitting skills. If you are a really new knitter, scroll down and check out the links to How to Knit from Johnny Vasquez over at New Stitch a Day for help!
Need a little help whipping up a few of these beauties? I have a couple websites that I used to increase my knitting skills.
“This weekend only, we’re doing something we almost never do — all NEW online classes start at $14.99. That’s right! That just-released class you’ve been eyeing from your favorite instructor? It’s on sale at prices so rare, you definitely don’t want to miss out. Offer starts January 15, 2016 and ends at 11:59 PM MT on January 18, 2016.”
Another website that helped me a lot was New Stitch a Day! Johnny Vasquez has created so many helpful videos including his series entitled Knitting 101! Check him out!

Do you have a Free Patterns that you want to see on Karla’s Making It? Let me know on the Karla’s Making It Facebook Page. Also, I would love to see any of your Crochet and Knitting Projects! Tag me in a photo!!
How did the holidays treat you? Did you get all the presents you wanted this year? I was spoiled with lots of family time. It was wonderful!
I also picked up a new hobby over the holiday – knitting!! I have always wanted to learn and have tried so many times over the years. Every time I tried, my attempts would end in frustration and I’m sure I tried to stab something with those needles. But not this time!! I think I got the hang of this!
I have fawned over so many knitting projects that you all Pin in my addiction of hoarding crochet patterns. I would see awesome yarn patterns and be so jealous and sad that they turned out to be knitting patterns instead of crochet. Like this pattern for a Chunky Knit Throw.
or these fabulous scarves
Isn’t that color work amazing? You just can’t get this look from crochet. Even tapestry crochet. Trust me!! I have tried. You still end up with dots of color where it shouldn’t be. I will admit, it is easier to do crochet color work in the round, but it still looks choppy and…just off. But, seriously, if I can learn to create projects like this, why would I not want to learn?!? Right?
Not only have I found that knitting is way better for color work, but the fabric turns out so amazing There is much more fabulous drape and hang.
On top of that, every knitted stuff animal I see I want to hug! I just don’t feel that way about crochet amigurumi! They seem so stiff and un-cuddly. Check these out!
Aren’t they darling?! My lil girl would LOVE the elephant. They are her favorite!
What about you? Do you also knit? What are your favorite knitted projects?
Going forward, I plan to include Free Knitting Patterns as well as all the Free Crochet Patterns here on Karla’s Making It. Maybe I will inspire one of you crocheters to pick up those needles and give it a try!
I will post some links that I used to get started with knitting in a future post, as well as my works in progress so stay tuned!!
