I stumbled across these two picture book-style ezine Lookbooks from Annies Signature Designs for their upcoming Annies Spring Breeze Collection for 2017 and I think you might want to go check it out.

It is totally beach inspired and fresh, yet timeless, elegant, and practical.  Right up my alley – and I know some of you like this beach inspired crochet theme as much as I do.

Annies Spring Breeze Collection features tanks, tees, pullovers and cardigans all geared to an audience of crocheters in their 30’s, 40’s, and 50+. That’s us!

With the California sun warming my heart I am excited to present the Spring Breeze Collection. Every element of this collection reflects my never-ending love for yarn and the needle arts. I’m fascinated with the details of the seashore, the shells, the rhythm of the tides, and the infinite pastel spectrum of the morning sky. The theme and color palette I chose for this collection captures some of these delicate tones. Please join me in a walk along the shore. Our footprints in the sand may wash away, but my passion woven into this collection will stay on-trend for years to come…

They snuck in some darling afghans on the back cover with no pattern in sight yet, hoping they come soon!

I really appreciate their use of natural fibers in this collection and the color palette is amazing. I think you will like it too.

New Yarn

While I was there, I saw their new yarn arrivals.  If you like yarn as much as I do, check out this new one. It’s recycled, so comfortable and look at those colors! YUM!

****There is an update from 1/17/2017 below

****There is another update from 02/02/2017 below

Hi there crochet friends!

I hope all of you had peaceful and family-filled holiday.  Whew, always love these holidays but man, sometimes they go on for weeks!

That’s OK because we have a lot to celebrate in life.

Did you travel this year? We stayed home this time and were thankful that our family would visit with us. Even though I stayed home, I didn’t have much time to crochet! How about you? I always hear that people get to crochet more on their vacations, but I sure didn’t.

And isn’t it always that when you get back from vacation, things have piled up so much that the first few days back are hectic and filled with to do’s.

That isn’t going to happen to me (yet). I have decided not to return to work until I get ahead of you all on the Crochet Rug. So my pile whittling will take place at the end of the week so I can get going with the rug.

Bear with me as I release this line by line.  If anyone is waiting and has time to crochet, I want to get the most out I can today.

Instructions for Rows 26 – 28:

Round 26 (BLO): Hdc to back loop of first st. In the same st hdc again. Hdc in next 15 sts. *2 Hdc in next st, hdc next 15 sts* around. (309 Hdc)

26th Round of Petals (FLO): Join with a sl st to 1st hdc, Ch 3, htr in same st. Make 2 Tr in the next st. In next st htr, Ch 3, sl st. *Sl st in next st, Ch 3, htr in same st. Make 2 Tr in the next st. In next st, htr, Ch 3, sl st* around. (102 petals)

Round 27 (BLO): Hdc to back loop of first st. In the same st hdc again. Hdc in next 15 sts. *2 Hdc in next st, hdc next 15 sts* around. (309 Hdc)

27th Round of Petals (FLO): Join with a sl st to 1st hdc, Ch 3, htr in same st. Make 2 Tr in the next st. In next st htr, Ch 3, sl st. *Sl st in next st, Ch 3, htr in same st. Make 2 Tr in the next st. In next st, htr, Ch 3, sl st* around. (102 petals)

I am wanting my Rug to lay flatter so I will keep making these same rounds (2 Hdc in next st, hdc next 15 sts and the Petals) until further notice.

Update 1/17/2017

I am working on the rug today 🙂 For round 28 I am making a round of HDC with no increase. I will then make the 28th round of petals. At that time I should see if the lack of increase worked to make the rug lie flat. Note: On the final pattern, I will know to stop increasing earlier to prevent any rippling. I just don’t have the heart to rip out five rows back to make this rug perfect. My second rug will be much cleaner.

If you are still hanging in there with me, YAY! I’m so happy.

Update 2/2/2017

I have worked the last row as above and I am done with the pattern now. It fits perfectly next to my tub, so I plan on leaving the pattern at 27 rows. I am going to test the pattern, and make changes at about the half way mark. I will write up a clean copy, on one page and with no ads and it will be available in my Etsy store for a small fee soon.

This version of the pattern will remain here. Thank you to those who have made the rug along with me. I appreciate all you kind words and comments.

Some of you have been kind enough to share pictures your rugs (or other projects) on the Facebook Page. Thank you tons. I love seeing your work! I definitely wouldn’t work this hard making a pretty website and sharing projects if I didn’t get to share them with you! So Thanks for the encouragement. I appreciate you. xo

Make it a Beautiful Day,

Hello Friends!

How is your rug coming along? I would love to see it! Post a pic on my Facebook Page or email me a copy at Karlasmakingit@gmail.com and I will post it for you!

My rug measures about 32 inches across.  Getting big and heavy! I love it.  It is so soft to walk on!

So I’m moving!! I know, it’s so exciting but sooooooo much work!!

Seriously, when you are a yarn hoarder like I am, it is maddening to the whole family to move (hehehe). And I even snuck some over to the new place in my car!!

I know – it’s a sickness. None of my crochet friends are yarn hoarders?! It’s really just me? I need therapy!

But anyway, you probably did’t know this but this website has been constructed and written and crocheted on my bed! Yep, hours and hours and hours spent in my room working my little fingers to the bone (insert violin music here). Feel sorry for me? Well you won’t when I show you my new craft space! I’m so excited! Stay tuned

I know, I know… you are really just here for the rug ( 😉 ) Let’s get to it then!

Instructions for Rows 23 – 25:

Round 23 (BLO): Hdc to back loop of first st. In the same st hdc again. Hdc in next 15 sts. *2 Hdc in next st, hdc next 15 sts* around. In the last 3 sts, 2 hdc in next st, hdc last st. (258 Hdc)

23rd Round of Petals (FLO): Join with a sl st to 1st hdc, Ch 2, dc in same st. Make 2 Tr in the next st. In next st dc, Ch 2, sl st. *Sl st in next st, Ch 2, dc in same st. Make 2 Tr in the next st. In next st, dc, Ch 2, sl st* around. (86 petals)

Note the change in the petal.  The Dc is replaced by a Htr (Half Treble Crochet), and we will Ch 3 at the beginning and end of each petal.

24th Round of Petals (FLO): Join with a sl st to 1st hdc, Ch 3, htr in same st. Make 2 Tr in the next st. In next st htr, Ch 3, sl st. *Sl st in next st, Ch 3, htr in same st. Make 2 Tr in the next st. In next st, htr, Ch 3, sl st* around. (91 petals)

Round 25 (BLO): Hdc to back loop of first st. In the same st hdc again. Hdc in next 15 sts. *2 Hdc in next st, hdc next 15 sts* around. 2 Hdc last st. (289 Hdc)

Ok, that’s what I have for you today! I will be back asap with more rounds! Also, I promise way better pictures next week! Moving and working is tough.  I’m sure you know.

How big do you want to make your rug?

Hello All,

How are you progressing on your rug? Sorry if anyone ran out of pattern before today – my son graduated from Marine boot camp this past week and I was spending time with him instead of crocheting. I will get right to it.

But if you haven’t started yet, head on over to the first page of the pattern where you can find the supplies you need as well as some notes on the pattern. Or maybe you need page 2? I hope you will join us. We don’t know as of this writing how large we are going to make our rug, but I’m going to keep going if you are.  Let me know

Part 1 – Below
Part 2
Part 3
Part 4
You can stop at anytime. When someone is working on part 4 let me know and I will work more rounds.

Hello Crochet Friends,

So I have been working on this Crochet Rug for quite a while.  Increasing like a normal circle wasn’t working the bigger the rug got and the rug wouldn’t lay flat.

I did some research, tried a few small samples, and frogged my first Flower Crochet Rug. Yes, I did have a tear.  Just one.

I grabbed my hook and my new knowledge about crocheting circles, and got started again and this time – success!

The other day, I posted my rug to one of my Crochet Facebook Groups – Crochet Addicts Uncensored asking for advice.  One or two of the gals over there wanted to make the rug too!

So we’re all going to crochet the rug together! If you want to talk about the rug pattern, you can comment below or post/message my on my Facebook Page. Be brave and post your WIP (work in progress) pics!! Help me stay motivated to keep writing this up 😉

Do I need to give a disclaimer? I should just in case.

Ok, here it is…

This pattern is NOT written in professional form. This pattern has not been tested and may have mistakes – in fact I guarantee it does.

I chose to live with the imperfections and just add or take away leftover stitches that didn’t work out. If you want to wait for the final version of the pattern, feel free. I will still leave this here 😉 I will also be creating a photo tutorial, once the pattern is complete.

I don’t know how much yarn I will need but I started with two 14 oz skeins of worsted weight white cotton.

Ok, let’s start this thing.  I will write up a few rounds at a time until I catch you up to where I am, ok? I’m still working on this pattern even though it is live.

Materials

  • Start with 2 skeins of Lily Sugar’n Cream White Cotton Yarn
  • J hook
  • Stitch markers

The maker of Lily Sugar n’ Cream is Yarnspiration.com.  They currently have the Lily Sugar ‘n Cream Big Ball for $9.99 – sometimes they will have a sale.

I usually purchase it from either Michael’s or Joann’s depending on who has the better coupon, since I have both nearby. I have been ordering online at Joann’s lately because of certain color of cotton they don’t stock here for some reason – like Robin’s Egg Blue!?!?! My fav color!

Anyway, they ALWAYS have coupons, usually 40-60% off one regular priced item and anywhere from 25-30% off entire order – sometimes even sale and clearance products, so don’t order from either store without at least one! Here’s their coupon pages:

Notes

You will be making two passes for each round. One of hdcs and one of petals.

I use stitch markers to mark the first and last hdc stitches as we will be working in a spiral, with NO sl st at the end of each round. On your last petal of the round, your next stitch will be a Hdc, and after your last hdc, you will go right into making a petal.

The BEST – Most Lovely Crochet Rug ever challenge!

Hello My Crocheting Friends,

Update – The Dahlia Flower Crochet Rug Pattern is now available in the KMI Shop!

Have you seen these darling Crochet rugs in your travels?!? Aren’t they to die for?

Crochet Rug

Seriously I have been drooling over them for days, they are absolutely gorrrrrrrrgeous. My brain is obsessed with locating a pattern.

But when will I find the time?? With the King, 5 little princes and princesses, a house to run, and…oh yeah, gotta do that “job” thing I do every day… This will be taking me forever!!

Crochet Rug

Is it worth it? I wasn’t sure… That is A LOT of yarn – A LOT!! And, it would requires so much time…and it would have to be done in the perfect shade of blue, grey and sea green, or just one color??…and my hands would be so darn tired because I would HAVE to force myself to work a little every day…hmmmmmmm

Then I did a search online and you know what? These Crochet Rugs are in the $700 – $1200 price range. Wowzers!! Um, yeah, it just may be worth it. I may not have this soft and squishy piece of loveliness in my house any time soon, but, darn it, I’m gonna try! Who’s with me??

Crochet Rug

Lol, you know what I just thought of?!? I may just never ever finish this Crochet Rug and have a ton of new coasters and potholders!! I better not join as I go… HA! I’ll have to request your address so I can pawn off a few pot holders onto you!! You wouldn’t mind, would you?

Crochet Rug

So what do you think? Any advice? tips? suggestions? Anyone want to commit me or better yet, come help with my Crochet Rug??? Please with a cherry on top??

Make it a Beautiful Day,
