Free Kitchen Crochet Patterns – Scalloped Potholder and Dorthea Dishtowel

Hello My Crocheting Friends,

Make your own dishtowels and potholders with these free patterns. Both patterns are great for a beginner with basic crochet skills. They are easy to work up and look impressive upon completion. Both pieces are made with my favorite cotton yarn, Lily Sugar and Cream.

  1. I love the look of the potholder. Im a beginner but I have been able to figure out the fpdc pretty well. My pot holder came out much bigger and floppy…I love how tight the one in the picture is. Any tips on how I can achieve this? I used a 5mm hook..was that it?… Thanks for any feedback, it is much appreciated

    1. Hi Michelle!! Thanks for your comment. Typically, when I follow a pattern, I will use the hook that is best suited for the yarn. In this case, I used Lily and Cream cotton yarn which calls for an H hook since it is worsted weight. If you are using a different weight yarn, look at the package and see which hook it recommends for crochet. In addition, I have recently made a “Crochet Hacks” page. Under “Yarn Basics” there is a chart that shows the hooks used with different weights of yarn. Check that out and see if it helps you. I tend to crochet tightly and have to try hard when a pattern calls for loose stitching. Perhaps you are a loose crocheter and will have to practice crocheting tighter for some projects. I hope I was able to help with your question! xoxo
